Modifying the information panel in a document library - so much metadata

I have a document library that uses metadata to capture information such as approvals, periodic reviews etc.  This metadata is used to create a number of different views such as approval views, follow-up dates etc. and a lot of this metadata comes from automated processes.

So my question is this: is there any way to configure the information panel to display only certain types of metadata? I would like to display only metadata (or properties) pertaining to the document library such as revision, document type, owner and so on.
