Modern Page Comments - Legal Hold / Retention?

With new modern pages, there comes the capability to make comments. The storage for these comments doesn't appear to be within the SharePoint site anymore (used to be). As such, if a site is placed under legal hold or you company has a retention policy, how are these handled? I've been unable to find any documentation on this, so hoping somebody else has either found some, discovered the answer, or been advised by MS.
