"Modern" News link appearing across all our team sites
We've opened a Premier support ticket regarding this. The advice was to disable a new setting in the SharePoint admin center as per https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Allow-or-prevent-creation-of-site-pages-by-end-users-c41d9cc8-c5c0-46b4-8b87-ea66abc6e63b?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US
However 14 hours later this has made no difference.
Thank you very much for the update, Richard.
The advice, anyway, makes no much sense, IMHO: why, in first place, is the link called "News"?

It's called News because when it is presented in the content of the landing page of your site, those pages ("articles") show up as News articles. See the example on this blog:

We're seeing this too. We are First release for all users. We also have Modern UI setting to "classic" still in the SharePoint Admin panel.

Hi KevinCrossman, thanks for your reply.
Luckily I don't see this new link in my tenants...
Nevertheless, I think I get what you say but I don't get the logic behind it...
If I understand it well, you have in a "classic" team site a link to a page where you can create "modern" pages which would be visible as News if the team site were a "modern" one, while it is not!
Am I correct?

You have Classic sites. And now they see "News" in the quick launch. Even if Modern UI is not on by default. As noted earlier, this is confusing to users - especially in our case because some Modern UI features haven't hit our tenant yet and we're waiting until they're all here to communicate to users.

Thanks for reporting this, Richard. We are looking into this. Will update the thread once we have this figured out.

For the folks that are seeing the link, are your tenants in First Release ?

We were able to repro the issue and we are working on a fix. I'll update this thread once the fix is deployed. The fix should hide the "News" link from the left nav for sites that it showed up in and allow us to properly ship this through deployment rings.
Again, thanks for reporting.
