Minimize opening of tabs while browsing
When browsing through a SharePoint site we've noticed that our users find it very confusing that lots of actions open up tabs. Could this be minimized? Or is there a specific reason for opening in tabs instead of in-line?

I'd like to extend this question and would like to know if anyone knows how to prevent subsites from opening in another tab?
- I don't recall out-of-the-box SharePoint opening new browser windows (the tab/window-behaviour is browser-specific - not SP-specific).
Is the links custom code links? If so, you can change the link behaviour like so: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff410058(v=office.14).aspx - If those tabs are opened from default actions in the SPO UI, there is nothing you can do
