Migrating SharePoint on-prem to SharePoint cloud
- Mar 23, 2018
Historically a direct upgrade path was only supported from the previous version of the product to the next, but this is only applicable to upgrades between on-premises versions...
When migrating from SharePoint On-premises to SharePoint Online (SharePoint cloud), 3rd party products in general provide the beste experience. ShareGate, Metalogix and AvePoint are big players providing 3rd party migration tools. You should check their websites but there are lots of blogs out there comparing the products.
Microsoft also provides a Migration Tool, I have no experience using it and I actually don't know if SharePoint 2007 is supported

There's a space character included at the end of the URL. Remove it and it works, I've edited my post to reflect this change...

Paul,
Thank you so much for your response. I have been looking into Metalogix as a possibility, but I'm still digging through our SP to verify it's content and makeup. Just so I'm not blindsided by a customization that kills a settled on plan of attack. The MS migration tool currently (or what I've found so far) only handles 2013 to 2016. I believe they are working on a 2010 to 2016 though.
- Mar 23, 2018SharePoint Migration Tool only supports SharePoint 2013 as source...we can expect to have SharePoint 2010 support in the future, but I doubt Microsoft will add support to SharePoint 2007. Being said that, Paul has provided the key information towards achieving your goal: basically you will need to review migration tools and see if they support SharePoint 2007 as source for a migration....and remember: migrate to SharePoint Online means to migrate contents and structure, not any kind of custom component you have in your farm
- Thomas GravelleMar 26, 2018Copper ContributorThank you for the response Juan. I have to find out if yet if I'm even allowed to download any 3rd party apps to assist in this task, but I did see early on that the MS migration tool wouldn't work for 2007. I just wasn't sure if I was going to have to do a 1 or 2 step jump before getting us to the cloud. Thank you again.
