Migrate a single Calender list from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint online
I am an independent advisor investigating this inquiry.
At my last employer, I was a SharePoint Analyst, Customer Support, and Trainer specializing in SP2010 and SP2013. We migrated many SP lists from the SP2010 to the 2013 application. The Created, Modified, CreatedBy, and Modified By are system columns that cannot be changed.
We approached this requirement in two ways.
Method 1) Inform the team that the system fields will align with the migration date - there is no workaround available. However, keep the spreadsheet containing the original details in a SharePoint library and make it available to all team members as a reference. (Preferred Method)
Method 2) Export your SP2010 data into a spreadsheet. Rename the system fields containing the old data. Import all fields and data into SP Online and hide the renamed columns. Create a view to display them for easy access when you need to reference the details. After a year or two, you can export the SP Online data and delete these SP columns. Remember, once you delete a column, that information is permanently gone-gone. It does not go to a recycle bin. (This method was our least favorite. As new members joined the team, they would get confused between the two sets of info.)
