Microsoft Search Question using SharePoint and File Share Connector
To troubleshoot this issue, you can try the following:
Check the Microsoft Search configuration: Verify that all content sources are connected and configured properly. You can do this by going to the Microsoft Search Admin Center and checking the "Content Sources" page.
Check the default vertical: Verify that the "All" vertical is selected as the default vertical. You can do this by going to the Microsoft Search Admin Center and checking the "Verticals" page.
Check the search scope: Verify that the search scope is set to "All" or "Everything." You can do this by performing a search and checking the search scope in the search box.
Test the search: Try performing a search using a term that you know should return results from the content source you created. If you still don't see results from the content source, try clicking on the vertical you created to see if the results appear there.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may want to reach out to Microsoft support for further assistance.
I hope this helps!
Deleted -- Thanks for responding so quickly. I checked your suggesstions and all appear to be set up correctly and working ...
Check the Microsoft Search configuration -- I did not see a "Content Sources" page -- only a Data Sources tab ... and the only "Data Source" shown here is my custom connector one
Check the default vertical: -- Shows all the standard out of the box ones plus my custom one
Check the search scope -- when I run a search, by default it returns results via 'All' which shows no results
But if I simply click on the OnPrem File Share vertical I do now get results -- I would have expected these to appear under All in a cluster associated with the OnPrem File Share content source, correct?
Did I miss anything?
- DeletedMay 10, 2023Check the content sources configuration to ensure that the custom connector is properly associated with the "All" vertical.
Review the search results display settings to ensure that the results from your custom connector are being properly grouped and displayed in the search results page.
Consider creating a separate vertical for your custom connector to ensure that the results are being properly displayed and avoid any issues with the "All" vertical- Rene WagnerMay 10, 2023Copper ContributorI must be missing something ... how do you associate the connector with the 'All' vertical? That is an OOTB vertical that cannot be modified and that I thought (by default) is supposed to aggregate all content sources.
As far as the Search Results go, I am using the OOTB M365 SharePoint Home Page Microsoft Search control to search from, and am not able to edit that results page (I am tenant admin).
The OnPrem File Share vertical that I show in the previous screenshot is a separate, custom vertical that I created for the connector.- DeletedMay 10, 2023
You are correct that the "All" vertical is an OOTB vertical that should, by default, show results from all content sources. However, it's possible that there may be a configuration issue or bug preventing the results from showing up properly.
To troubleshoot this issue, you can check the following:
1. Make sure that your custom content source is properly configured and connected to Microsoft Search, as I mentioned in my previous response. This will ensure that the results from the content source are available to be displayed in the search results.
2. Check the search scope configuration to ensure that the "All" vertical is configured to include your custom content source. You can do this by going to the "Search Scopes" section of the Microsoft Search Administration page and clicking on the "All" vertical. From there, you should see a list of all the content sources that are included in the vertical. Make sure that your custom content source is included in this list.
3. Check the search results page configuration to ensure that the "All" vertical is configured to display results properly. You mentioned that you are using the OOTB M365 SharePoint Home Page Microsoft Search control to search from, but you are not able to edit that results page. If this is the case, it's possible that there may be a configuration issue or bug with the default results page that is preventing the results from showing up properly. You may want to reach out to Microsoft support or your IT department for assistance in troubleshooting this issue.
If none of these solutions resolve the issue, there may be a more complex configuration or bug that needs to be addressed. In this case, it's recommended to seek assistance from Microsoft support or your IT department for further troubleshooting.
