Manual Creation of Modern Team Site?

Looked and did not see much of anything regarding this. I am getting the Modern Team site experience when using Groups. Why do new "manually" created site collections use the old Team Site? Is there ...

    Thanks for the info - was aware of most. I guess what I really want to know is "why do I have to do all of these manual steps".

     

    We currently do not use groups and are working through that now. The "site template" for modern sites would be very beneficial to me on its own.

     

    Second, the fact that I can create a modern team site via the groups function and cannot be consistent with subsites is a bit of an issue with me also.

     

    I think this is going to confuse/frustrate that common everyday consumer/local site admin.

     

    I guess I will just keep monitoring and see if the site template can be created on its own in the SPOAdmin console...
