Managed property not showing up in highlighted content web part modern team site

I mapped a crawled property for a choice column (ows_q_CHCS_Category/tag ) to RefinableStringXX but it doesn't show up when I try to filter on it in the hcwp. Waited a day and manually reindexed site. Usually this works, so I don't get what this bug is. Tested in the results source query builder and the managed property just isn't working.
