Looking for a little help with an error using the new Event webpart.

I am on the newest version of Sharepoint that is still rolling out to users. I'm not using a communications site. I'm still on a Team Site but using all the new features.

One of the new features is an “Events” WebPart that you can add to any of the “modern” pages. This Events webpart links to a calendar on the site. On the modern page the events webpart looks like a list of up coming events and has an “Add Event” button for users with the right permissions. My OWNER permissions level user can add events no problem. My Edit permissions level user can click the Add Event Button but then gets an error that says…
We’re sorry, we encountered an unexpected error. Please try again, if the problem persists please contact your Administrator.
PageLayoutId – Event
However, if the user with Edit permissions goes to the actual calendar (not using the Events webpart) they can add an event the old fashion way from the ribbon without errors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. I even tried giving that user FULL CONTROL permission just for that one calendar list and still getting the error.

  • Thanks for reporting your issue Chelsea Porter. To add an event you must have editor permissions on the event list, which we check for to show you that button. It sounds like the user has those permissions, but may be encountering some other error.

Under the "unexpected error" text there should be a technical details tab with more information, could you either post that here or send it to me?

    Thanks,

    John

      Hi,

I have this same issue with events in an Office 365 Group modern site.

I can add events, but if one of the members (who have Edit rights) clicks on an event, it brings up that same "Unexpected Error" message.

The only additional info is "PageLayoutID - Event"

      Thanks,

      Matt

        Hey Matthew!

I THINK my problem (and possibly your problem as well) is that the members with edit rights don't have the full release of SharePoint yet. If you can verify that on your end it will help. I'm still waiting for the full release to come to my organization so I can test it better with multiple accounts but I THINK this is my problem. Just something to check :) Let me know if this helps at all!
