LocallSharepointResults Count Anomaly between (1) Old/Existing External Guest users vs (2) NEW Exte
Why is the LocalSharepointResults Total items count NOT THE SAME between Existing and NEW Created External Guest-same site within same PnP Search
When accessing PnP Search Webparts-- on the initial load of Pnp Search Results web part -{LocalSharepointResults} as we configured shows the total number of items 27688.
The Anomaly:
1-Existing External Guest Users access to the PnP Search results Web Parts show 27688 items from LocalSharepointResults
2-However- any Newly-created External Guest account which also accesses the same PnP Search WebPart on the same site only shows a number far less than 27688, ie 1628 and this count increases OVER TIME ! (* from 203 yesterday as total items count 'LocalSharepointResults') suggestive of indexing progress in motion.
So to be clear --- the issue is that # 1 and # 2 both External Guests above but each gets a DIFFERENT total items count while accessing the same site and using the same GuestSearch.Aspx which contains the SAME PnP Search Web parts.
What could explain this ?
Is this Permission Based trimming we are neglecting and not configuring correctly or mere indexing artifact perhaps? Very strange indeed.
The Result Source in PnP Web Part is set to "LocalSharepointResult" both at the Site Collection and Site levels as recommended by Microsoft.
Our Query Template on the PNP just for FYI-->
{SearchTerms} Path:{SiteCollection}
.. but the query template is irrelevant since the LocalSharepointResults total items count is shown on the PnP screen BEFORE any User query input is entered on the page load of GuestSearch.aspx page which contains the PnP Search.
Permissions are set the same for both Existing vs NEW External Guests-its the first things we looked at since search is security trimmed at the get-go. we have also already re-indexed with "Search & Offline Availability".
What we can do to resolve if a mis-step on our parts if that be the case?
Seems to us an indexing issue specially since the NEW External Guest total 'LocalSharepointresults' count increases with item soon after creation while any Existing External Guest account is steady at 27688 total items on the SiteCollection which is identical to when an Org Admin/Orh member accesses the same site with the same Pnp Search Web parts.
Can anyone offer some feedback as to what is going on?

RJBalani This is because of search security trimming. All data cannot be made searchable for a new user immediately after the user is added to a site. Crawling is required to ensure that only the information available to the user is searchable. So yes, there will be a gradual increase, but after 24 hours it should be fine.
