TechP3 Lookup columns will work only within a site collection. You cannot lookup lists from one site collection (team site) to another site collection (team site).
For such requirements, you can use content types hub in SharePoint. Create a lookup column as a site column, add it to the content type and publish that content type to content type hub.
Then you can use the content type/site columns in another site collection. Check below Microsoft official documentation: Publish a content type in SharePoint

ganeshsanap Thanks for your reply. I am having real difficulties with this & without having reached the stage of getting a lookup to work between sites, am first trying to add custom columns to the Hub site content types gallery, but having added additional metadata fields to (for example) the Video content type, then enabling 'Allow management of content types' in one of the Team site document libraries in which it is to be available, the custom columns are not there. I assumed it may take time to propagate but have now ruled that out.
I subsequently discovered the content type gallery in the SharePoint admin center at tenant level and planned to make the customisations there - but alas it has far less content types showing than the Communication and Team site content type galleries. All media types are missing - Audio, Image, Rich Media, Video, Video renditioning - and if I try to add one, there is no Category to select for Digital Asset Content Types, hence cannot use Rich Media Asset parent relationships. This makes no sense as Video and Rich Media (classic) is active in site collection features (as is cross site publishing).
If you or anyone can enlighten me it would be greatly appreciated.
