List "Created" Column set to Standard View not working

Simple as the title says. I have a SharePoint list where the "Created" column has been set to "standard," after the settings are saved, however, the list still displays the "Created" column in the "friendly" format. I can go back into the list settings and check the format, and it's still selected as "standard." 

Slightly frustrating because we use these columns in standard format to validate and audit some data, and we need the standard format to display the exact date and time it was created.
