with search you can view items cross site from all other sites, where do you have access.

But you mean cross site lookups, right? That's right, you can use SharePoint lookup columns only in the same site. I think with Power Apps you can create cross site lookups: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/169985/sharepoint-online-lookup-column-from-another-site

Heaven forbid a 'rollup' technology is built-in to SPO. Yes there's managed metadata but then you run into another myriad of issues.
EVERYTHING in this confounded tech seems to have a myriad of issues that are NEVER dealt with. At least there are data service connections to Trellio etc. Where would we be without that??

I'll just go use some other "useful" and "functional" tech, this all seems to have gone to the birds.
