Issue to move folders

Hello everyone.
This is my first post here.
I'm facing an issue where I'm unable to move folders. This started after the last SharePoint update. For example, as shown below, I cannot move folder 1 into folder 2.

Inheritance policies and read/edit security groups have already been changed, and nothing changed. Anyone else experiencing this?

Thank you for the community helping here.

I tested this in my own sites and in two different tenants, and the Move action is working as expected. You may want to check the following, as these can block folder moves even when permissions look correct:

    • The library may have unique permissions or broken inheritance.
    • The destination folder may have more restrictive permissions / unique permissions than the source.
    • Try moving a file instead of a folder to see if the issue is folder‑specific.
    • Try moving the folder using OneDrive Sync (File Explorer), if it works there, the issue is likely with the SharePoint UI.
    • Try the same action in a different site to confirm whether the issue is global or isolated.

      Dear Virendrak,

Thank you for your quick reply — great to connect with you here.

I'd like you to know that the SharePoint interface now supports drag and drop, which allows me to move content directly into folders within the Site Dashboard. Your recommendations are very helpful, and I will be following them as an additional confirmation step.

      You was a gentleman! 😃

Yes, SharePoint fully supports drag‑and‑drop in modern libraries. You can easily move files and folders using drag‑and‑drop. The only limitation is that if you are inside a folder, you cannot drag that same folder back to the parent level. To move it, go up one level and then drag it from there.

        • If you are inside Folder A, you cannot drag Folder A itself back to the parent level.
        • SharePoint blocks this because the folder cannot be moved while you are “inside” it.
