Is MS SharePoint MIgration too support Windows Server 2016?

Hello

We are in process for preparing a dedicated VM to migrate contents from file servers to SharePoint Online using SharePoint Migration tool.  As per https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointmigration/how-to-use-the-sharepoint-migration-tool article, I can see for better performance MS recommended Windows Server 2012 R2.  

If I  install migration tool on Windows Server 2016, will this support? Has anyone used migration tool with WIndows Server 2016, please share the experience.

Please advise which server I should go for installing migration tool for better performance.
