Is it possible to pin an item or document in a list/library in Sharepoint 2016 on-premise?

Hello all. I need to pin some important documents in a document library, or items in a list library, at the top of my list/library.

I use SP 2016 with  feature pack 1. Does it have such feature like SharePoint Online? And how to do it?

If not, will it be realized in a future?

Thanks to all, but none of methods you described above is usable.

A typical user (not admin) cannot pin an item at the top of the list quickly and easily.

So, all we need is to wait for the next feature pack. (

  • We don't still know when we will have in SP 2016 modern features, such as the one you have described, in Office 365...probably om FP 2, but we don't know the details yet

A quick way to do this is to create a new column in your list & call it order. Make sure it is a number field with no duplicates allowed. Enter the order you want your documents in. Stop editing & then sort in numerical order. If you prefer, you can change your view after to hide the field after so no one else can see it.
