Image Gallery carousel regression

Hello,

In grid or brick, the image gallery allows you to click on the images to open a full screen gallery experience. In carousel mode however, this feature does not work.

I have users that are adamant that it worked before in carousel mode. While I do not have used it much and I cannot confirm if it's true, did the image gallery had any kind of regression ?

Is there a way to obtain such feature with another webpart ?
