How to set width of New Item form with JSON

I have modified the column layout of a New Item form. There are only 8 fields on the form - and it looks silly to have the form be the entire width of the screen.  So I want to format the width of the form with JSON but I'm not sure how.  Could someone please explain how to control this?  Thank you in advance
