How to hide the applied filters at document library?

Possibly just an odd behaviour yesterday but I have a view that is filtered by [Me] and I've been using the clear the filter to see other peoples items - good as admin, but bad for the general user.
Anyway, yesterday I noticed that even when I cleared the filter it didn't actually display the other items - like it retains the built in view filter regardless of the displayed filter.
I'm kind of hoping that is the case.
