How to add managed properties to a SharePoint sites ?‎‎

Hi,

I would like to be able to search SharePoint sites with the PNP Search Results Web Part using managed properties. So is it possible to add searchable /queriable/refinable/sortable managed properties to a SharePoint site ? If this isn't possible, how can I search for sites based on criteria? Thanks
