How the 'App >> Configure Store Settings' exactly work inside our SharePoint

As a general rule in SharePoint (online & on-premises), only site owners can install apps inside the sharepoint sites. so if we develop an app and upload it to the local App catalog site, then this App will be available to site owners to install inside the sites.

but i am not sure how app installation works for sharepoint marketplace. now if I go to "SharePoint admin center" >> "App" >> "Configure Store Settings", i will get these settings:-

where the first checkbox is saying that "end users be able to get apps from the marketplace".. so if we keep the first checkbox set to Yes, then does this mean that end users (non-site owner users), can install any app from the sharepoint marketplace inside sharepoint sites? if the answer is Yes, then will this app be available to all users inside the site?? or still apps inside sharepoint marketplace require the user to be a site owner to be able to install the app inside a sharepoint site?

Thanks

  • Apps inside our local app catalog site work differently from Apps inside the market place, in respect to how they are required and added?

    Yes thats correct.

as in the local App catalog site case, we can not allow users to directly add apps to the sites, unless those users are site owners, is this correct?

Yes, Organization apps has extra security layer where users cant add app directly unless they are site owners.

while in the marketplace case, there are settings to allow end users (non-site owners) to be able to directly add apps inside the sites, or to be able to request them (if the App Purchases option is set to No)??

Yes, end user be able to add/ purchase app or request directly from Marketplace .

    Hope this helps

  • Hi John,

By default it allows users to get or request app from market place. If you check "YES" (end users be able to get apps from the marketplace) users will be able to add / buy app from the Market place.
If you check "NO", Users will still be able to browse to the market place but they will only be able to request the apps. They can't add apps directly.
To add or request apps you should have full control/ site owners permission. You have to be an admin to configure the store settings though.

    Hope this helps !
    Thanks,

OK thanks for your reply.. so if i got your reply correctly, then Apps inside our local app catalog site work differently from Apps inside the market place, in respect to how they are required and added? as in the local App catalog site case, we can not allow users to directly add apps to the sites, unless those users are site owners, is this correct? while in the marketplace case, there are settings to allow end users (non-site owners) to be able to directly add apps inside the sites, or to be able to request them (if the App Purchases option is set to No)??
