How do I use the Filter in News web part with Selected sites
jellybeancooper the News web part is really designed to work with a hub site and associated sites, not subsites (which are no longer recommended by Microsoft). You can select the associated sites to roll up the news and display it on the hub site news web part.

The fact of life is that some of us are working for large organisations that still have subsite structures. It will be a long time before this juggernaut turns in any other direction.
I've worked out that we can repost news pages from the subsites and display them in the news web part on the home page. I guess that will need to do for now.
