I would love it if you could post some reference images where you're facing issues! it will make it easier to respond as I would see where are facing your issues!

That site can't not be changed or edited! That the SharePoint Home and is for fast navigation!
1. Create a Communication site and set it has a Home Site for your SharePoint. Recommended to use the Root site!
2. You need to set it as home site and publish it, after that you will get a button on the top left side of Connections to move to the SharePoint site.
