Hide Edit Form option from SharePoint Online List

Remove their Edit Permissions and Replace them with Contribute. Edit Permissions allows users to Edit the list itself, Contribute will not.
When a user tries to edit this with Contribute permissions and save, it will fail with an access denied.
No replies to this discussion? I have the same question. I would like to prevent some users from editing the form on a list so that they can't enable columns that they shouldn't get to see.
