Hero Part and the Home Page in Communication Sites

I had a user working with the homepage of a new communication site. They removed the hero web part that came with the page. When they later decided they wanted it back, they added in a new hero web part. They noticed that it wasn't the same width as the hero part that was there when they created the site. We couldn't find any way to add back the full-width hero web part. We also noticed that we couldn't create a new homepage style page. So if we had resorted to deleting the page, we'd have been stuck with no way to get the page back short of provisioning a new site. Is there a way to get the full-width hero? Is there a way to re-create a homepage, short of creating a new site? I've attached a screenshot of the difference between the default hero and the one you can add.
