Help please: How to stop version history updating when editing metadata

Hi, does anyone know if there is a way of uploading documents to a SharePoint Library, and not have the version change about 7 times when filling in the meta data?

I have an issue where each time I update metadata, it automatically updates the version of the document however the document hasn't been changed itself. How do I stop this?

Is anyone able to assist with this? I would like to know how to stop the version of a document being updated everytime I change a metadata item?

scaballero this is the default behaviour and you can't stop the version number being updated.

This is as Rob replied standard behavior of SharePoint. The versions also count towards your storage quota consumed. This is particularly annoying for large files.

There are Apps that allow editing of metadata without adding a new version. These apps (example) use the REST API ValidateUpdateListItem method to update metadata without adding a new version.
