Header area for Modern Pages

Why is the header so tall and empty? I know that with Delve blogs there is place for a background image and in fact is sort of expected. But I don't see the same facility for SP Modern Pages. Am...

Interesting that this was deployed with no option to customize it. That header screams customize me! I was thinking that I was missing something obvious before a search brought me here. Good to see that the communication site pages have the ability to do so - I would imagine that means that the ability is coming to team site pages as well - though it would be great to know when!

I just had a look at the new pages on the new communication sites and you can removed the image ( the X ). That makes this area a lot smaller

So this must be something that is on its way.

Excellent news! I note there is something similar when you use the new column options to divide a page - you can delete sections at a time, which is really useful

  The 'page layout' options in the hero web part and the 'page layout' options in the sections are indeed a highlight of the changes coming through.
  
  I noticed that when you split a section into multiple columns the hero web part doesn't like the limited space of a column. The rest all seems great!
