It's currently not possible to convert a modern Team Site to a Communication Site i'm afraid.

You enable the experience on Classic Sites, but as yet not existing modern Team Sites as per - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/sharepoint/modernize-classic-team-site

Thanks so much PeterRising Even though I really wanted it to happen, your answer helps me a lot to stop struggling for that. I was expecting I could reverse the process, and change its configuration, but then I rather focus on creating a new site.

Peter is correct: it's not possible and it's not going to be possible IMHO
