Filtering autocompletes based on top result
I have noticed recently that if you are filtering on a column in a SharePoint list or library, if you start typing, it will now auto complete your search for you based off of the top result in that column.
I will show some examples below of this happening.
When just typing "1" it auto completes my search with the top result.
When typing "1234" it auto completes my search based off of the 1 and then adds 234 to the end of the top result.
This means you now either have to copy and paste the exact thing you want to search on or manually scroll down the filter list to select what you want. You cant anymore just type 1234 and then select 1234789.
Is this a new feature? Can it be turned off? Would be great to have some answers if anyone knows as it is extremely frustrating, as I use the filter feature every day to partially match and help me find items, and now that is essentially not possible.
Thanks!

Service restored (Monday March 24 2025 4:30 PM UTC)
Root cause: A recent service update included a change, designed to fix another issue, which introduced a regression in the filter pane component and caused impact.
New build deployed that reverses the offending change. - lgonyeaIron Contributor
Users in our tenant have encountered the issue as well. With similar long numeric Term set. Must type, then backspace to the last correct portion, type the next numeric the field autofills with numerics totally unrelated, backspace and so on until they desired numeric is entered. Navigation via the "Edit all" form is not an option since the Term Set is large. Only workaround is to copy/paste the value from Notepad. I do see it in our Service Health message center. Sounds like we must wait for the fix to hit our tenant between 3/21 and 3/30 ...

I came to talk about the same issue. Looks like I have to raise a ticket.

Same here. It's super annoying.

This has been reported today by our users. I tested and it was fine for me - until I messed about and now I have the same issue.

We are also having this issue. After a 2 hour call with MSFT support, they are trying to convince me this is "by design."
- SnoopDogBrass Contributor
First line support is useless they can go only based on their scripts. If you happen to run into a problem which never happened before, they freeze :D . 99%-of the times I smile and apologetically escalate it further until I reach a platform engineer who actually knows what I am talking about...

Same issue here. going to reference the ticket mentioned above.
