Export List to Excel for non-editor
Have the "New Experience" for lists in tenant.
A "reader" user needs to be able to get the list into Excel for local manipulation (doesn't need to update list in SharePoint).
Export To Excel option only shows up for Editors, so no go.
In "Classic Experience" the Export To Excel says that they must have "a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible application". We are using Office 2010 and have never had an issue before.
Copy-n-paste doesn't work either.
So in a nutshell how do we get that list copied into Excel?
- DeletedGood question could you try to go in excel and open the list from there?

Web Query returns no items is basically what the message said when I tried.

It worked for me today (both for SP library - many tech. records and also for SP list) - maybe you have to authorize properly.. (?)

With lastest version of Excel 2016 you are able to import SharePoint list to Excel Sheet (Data > New Query > From Other Sources > From SharePoint List)
