Existing file need to be checked out if a duplicate file is uploaded

Hi,

I've really been struggling to find any information about this. I have a document library which is set up to require documents to be checked out before they can be edited (Which is needed).

However, this setting is causing issues as I also want user to be notified when the document name already exist in the library. Previously I would be notified with 2 options: Replace or Keep both documents.

Now they only get the message that the file is not checked out. "You must first check out this document before making any changes".

Does anyone know how to get around this? My initial thought was that it would be possible to use Power Automate flow to check if a duplicate file exists in the library, but the file would probably not upload as the existing file is checked in.

If the library is set to require check out, then you'll always get that message even if you set up Power Automate, etc. I don't even think there is a trigger available in Power Automate to handle this scenario as you aren't making any modifications to the file.
