Events Calendar

Hi I ambrand new to SP! I have created a training site and have posted events for new hires to join in the coming months. They click on the event and it adds this to their own outlook calendar. Is it possible when they do this that it adds them as a participant to the event so I can see the number of attendees and contact them in advance? If this wont work then please help me find another solution. Thank you Jo
