Enable "Link to Item" on any column of a task list

We recently migrated from SharePoint 2010 to 2016. Under SP2010 I was able to follow the steps below in Designer & make any field "Link to Item." For some reason, this is not working under SharePoint 2016.

Is there something that I might need to do differently? Thank you. 

Link to Item Steps:

•   Open your List view page in SharePoint Designer using “Edit File in Advanced Mode”
•   Search for <ViewFields> Tag. Pick the appropriate field to have link to item functionality
•   Add: LinkToItem=”TRUE” to it.
