Embedding a Yammer conversation into a SharePoint page
I think the new SharePoint site pages are a good start. They are easier to add content and hopefully over time, they will become more customizable.
I'd like to make use of the News app and pages to help teams and departments keep the whole organization informed of whats happening. When a new article is written, I want to provide discussion by embedding a Yammer conversation into the page. I have found I can embed a Yammer group, a topic (hashtag), a person or the All Network feed. But I'm unable to use the direct URL for a discussion thread.
Do you think this feature would be useful?

Thanks for the feedback darrellaas. I'd love to know how important you view this feature comparative to other similar concepts (say showing group conversations as an example).
Our initial implementation mirrored yammer's embed widget support as a starting MVP (see: https://www.yammer.com/widget/configure); it's limited to groups, topics, home, users.
Always love to hear your scenarios with relative priorities... it's helps us prioritize.
Thanks,
John

Other use cases are in the area of knowledge capture and knowledge sharing via the relevant SharePoint Online page. For example, Competitor Intelligence. For busy sales and other customer facing employees, having just one Yammer group for this is preferred.
- Employee AB posts "I heard XYX company has licensed their product Strawberry in Germany to JamMakers Intl".
- They could then either select appropriate tags or the Competitive Intel Person (also the Yammer group moderator), would tag it with the 2 companies, country=Germany, product=strawberry, segment=home cooks and our_product=raspberry.
- In various locations across the Intranet this intel would automatically show in the Yammer part as the Comp Intel group and specific tags that had been selected ie
- EMEA Division communications site but not APAC sites (tags=Germany, UK, France etc)
- Our product page for Raspberry (all posts tagged by directly competing products eg Strawberry, Peach, Fruit Cup)
- Our segment page for Home Cooks
- etc
On these pages I need to show one part with customisable heading (I might call it Intel from the field) and be able to select multiple tags
The whole thing is pretty automated (especially if at some point a feature is added to Edit/Replace tags :-) )
Our current database is quite rich and we would like to be able to use our migration to O365 and SharePoint online as an opportunity to leverage more of the resource.
The above model could be applied to a number of Knowledge Management scenarios, especially those that exist outside CRM systems and where the frequency of inbound information is inconsistant and volume unknown

Thanks for the scenario detail Debra Currie. I sent it to our partners in Yammer that we're working with to build an even better SharePoint + Yammer story. Nice detail.
Hi John_Sanders. I think it's great that someone can easily embed a Yammer group by pasting a URL.
My scenario is to quickly and easily provide a conversation area for a SharePoint News page. This helps drive interaction and feedback about the news being shared, across the company. Ideally, you would be able to choose Yammer as the comments platform, associate it with a Yammer group and it auto-creates the conversation thread when you create a new News page. And when people come across the Yammer post on it's own, there's a link back to the full news article too.
I realise some of these things can be achieved with coding or a series of manual steps. But it needs to be easy for end users.
- Agree with Darrel, the more configurations and options available to integrate Yammer on a modern web page, the more useful is going to be this webpart
- Diane KennedyIron ContributorWould it be similar to what this does? https://developer.yammer.com/docs/commenting
Thanks. I knew there was a way to programatically do it or build a web part like jcgonzalezmartin mentioned. I'm hoping it is made more user friendly, simply by pasting in the link to a conversation thread.
- You can ask a developer to build the webpart ;-)...by the way all this webparts can be considered as in preview since they are all based on the SPFx that is also in preview
