Email all members in a Communication Site

When someone joins or follows a Communication Site, they are added to a SharePoint group for members. This group is not an O365 group or a mail enabled security group and therefore cannot be emailed.

Many of our Communication site owners post news or events and would like to push a notification to all their members. When using the "promote" button on a news page, you can email right from this page, but you have to type in names individually or know the names of other groups. I need the option to email all the members or followers of that Communication site.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious. Seems silly that a site with the intention of broad communications doesn't have the ability to contact all the members.

Brittany Kreigh  I agree, this is really silly. Even the office 365 group emails don't work well. People can opt out, out of office emails spam everyone in the group, just a mess. I am surprised more people aren't complaining. Maybe not that many using modern communications sites yet or not using them correctly as intended. Which would mean that you have to be able to push stories to the communication site users!

  • Nope, not a simple way to accomplish this per say, outside of trying to find a way to query this via API / powershell to accomplish pulling a list of followers.

Your best bet is to communicate to your users to invest into the SharePoint Mobile app and make sure push notifications are on. This way they will get notifications of news posts to the sites.

I know some investments are coming in terms of site notifications outside of just mobile, but right now the only built in functionality is leveraging mobile apps.
