Editing SharePoint list view opens new browser tab

In a SharePoint list (modern), when I select "Edit current view" from the view selector, SharePoint opens a new browser tab.

I edit the view and save. Then I have two browser tabs - one with the original view and one with the revised view.

Seems this has only been happening in the last few months. Is anyone else experiencing this? Or does anyone know how to change this? Happens in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.
