Duplicating a SharePoint online site collection

Hi

 

i Want to be able to duplicate a SharePoint online site collection so that I have a backup of the current production site.  I do not want to use a third party applications like metalogix, avepoint or sharegate.

 

@BertJansen demonstrated as possible solution on last tuesday’s (13th February) PnP monthly call, using Get-PnPProvisioningTemplate but it was not clear if this was just for the home page or for all modern UI pages in the site pages document library.

 

is there any way of duplicating SharePoint online site collections ?

    AFAIK, PnP is not the solution to your scenario where you need a backup of your site collection...PnP is perfect to duplicate the site collection structure including pages on the sites, WebParts on pages and so on, but it's not suitable to also get a copy of the content you have in document libraries and lists of your site collection and all the sites under the site collection

      I was only quoting the PnP solution of a possible solution.  I am aware of its limitations.

       

      So is there another way of duplicating a site collection containing Modern UI Pages and no subsites ?
