Difference between normal SharePoint / OWA patch and farm-deployment patch
Hi @all,
at my comany we are patching via DSM and this tool often offers 2 types of SharePoint / OWA patches to my farm servers.
For example this month DSM console shows the follwoing OWA patches to be installed on our OWA 2013 server:
Security Update for MS OWA 2013 (KB4018344) farm-deployment (rev 201)
Security Update for MS OWA 2013 (KB4018344) (rev 201)
What is the difference here? Can I skip one of this? In the past DSM often has trouble to install both. It says only one can be installed or better, the patch is already installed...
Thanks for your feedback and explanations
Regards
Sven

- There should be no difference, but given the manual steps involved in SharePoint and WAC patching, I wouldn't use automated deployment methods from 3rd parties or WSUS.
SharePoint requires running the Config Wizard post-patch. WAC/OOS requires you to disjoin the farm, patch the server, create a new farm.- Sven EngelCopper ContributorAfter every security patching we do already a manual psconfig.
So what is the term farm-deployment about? Couldn't find any Information here
thanks.
Sven- I'm not sure, Microsoft makes no distinctions in their patches, and indeed there is only a single patch for WAC for any given month.
