Default Site Collection
We are using SharePoint Oline. also, we created the two site collections as follows. communication site - https://companyname.sharepoint.com Teamsite - https://companyname.sharepoint.com/sites/t...

This can let you change the site with the default. Currently there is no way to define the home site yet. That is coming in the future.

I have one more question if I delete the communication site, then the team site will be set as the default site?
because we just created the SharePoint site, there is no data.

You cannot swap a Team site.- to clarify this slightly - you cannot swap a group connected team site - but, from the article:
"If the target is the root site at https://tenant-name.sharepoint.com then the source site must be either a Team Site (STS#0), a Modern Team Site (STS#3), or a Communication Site (SITEPAGEPUBLISHING#0)."
So a classic Team site, or a modern (non-group connected) Team site would be fine.
