Customizing Choice Dropdown box
Scott180 Unfortunately, it is not possible to customize the choice column popup in SharePoint out of the box list form to make it semitransparent. It is possible to customize the list forms using Power Apps and SPFx but it is too much work for your simple requirement.
I will suggest you to change choice column settings to use radio buttons instead of the drop down as you are having only two options - Yes/No. This way you can achieve your requirements as well as one additional benefit - one less mouse click for user to choose the option:
