Communications Sites web parts audience
Hi - seems like Communications sites web parts (and maybe modern team sites) do not have the ability to target content using audiences - is this what others experience? thanks
- Jul 19, 2017AFAIK, default modern WebParts provided by Microsoft do not incorporate the option of setting up audiences

The bigger question IMO is why doesnt Microsoft consider something like that "worthy" to go into Modern. Is this something on the backlog or (more likely) they've picked to deprecate. I'd like to see that roadmap be a little more clear.

I'm not sure how Microsoft can not include this feature. For companies that want to use the OOTB webparts they're delivering as an Intranet offering with no custom code or 3rd party solution (after all, not every company has a budget for this sort of stuff) targetting content is fairly fundamental. And because many of the webparts are driven from direct configuration rather than lists, there's an extra unnecessary step in there imo. Being able to populate content into a list/library apply permissions or audiencing to it and then let the "Hero" take care of surfacing that, is surely what we should be aiming for. Not, user creates page, tells admin about it, admin goes and edits webpart to surface the article.
