Column to lookup status in another list

I have a document library with some meta data that needs to be editable. I have an approval flow running and I want to store the approval data in another list. I created the Approval Status list and I created a column named FileID which contains the ID for the document in the original list. I am trying to understand how to create a column that automatically looks up the FileID and matches it to the current documents ID. Would this be a calculated column or a lookup? And what would that look like? Thanks for any information!

To clarify, I am creating a column to lookup the value of the column "Status" in my second list, where the FileID in the second list matches the ID in the document library.
