Changing which search page queries should be sent to

I am new to Sharepoint and have been trying to change the search results page that queries are sent to. My goal was to send queries to a search results page I have created in the search center which includes a taxonomy refinement web part. In Search Settings under Site Settings for the site I want to use this customized search results page for I have entered the URL for this page. However, when I search this site the results page used  is still the default search.aspx page, not the customized one I created. Can anybody tell me what I am missing here?
