Changing Modern Site Icons
- Feb 02, 2017You should be able to change group icons from outlook on the web, which should then sync to the teamsite.
This worked before. Now it doesn't. It's bugged. You can look up my other thread about this.
Just to make sure I understand--if I'm still on hosted Exchange (haven't been transitioned to Outlook online) I'm unable to change the icon for a modern team site?

Peter Mcdermott -- you can still change it.
Use the link below but modify it for the site icon of the site you want to change --
https://yourtenantname.sharepoint.com/yoursite/_layouts/15/prjsetng.aspx
for instance, if you tenant name is "nintendo" and the site you want to change is "/sites/mario"
https://nintendo.sharepoint.com/sites/mario/_layouts/15/prjsetng.aspx
Once on that link, click on "FROM COMPUTER" to upload an icon or paste in a URL of the icon you want to use. Note, it sounds like you might need to use a .jpg but I could swear a .png has worked for me in the past.

Thanks for the solution. It looks like this works for a split second and then it reverts back to the generated text.

I can confirm exactly the same thing happens for me

I tried uploading a square .jpg file called __siteIcon__.jpg, then leaving it checked it out in the site assets library.
The logo then appears in any views of the site (mostly admin ones) that use the classic interface. Also, when I load the site homepage, or any of the modern pages, initially a logo appears with three grey heads on a grey background, which is quickly replaced by the logo I uploaded, then finally when the page is fully loaded, it reverts back to the initials of the site name. 'Adam's test' becomes 'At' for instance. Code in the page as follows:
<div class="ms-siteLogoAcronym ms-font-xxl" role="presentation" aria-hidden="true">At</div>
We don't currently have Exchange Online, so perhaps this is the problem. All a bit bizarre!
