Can't find my sharepoint site in site collections
Hi Jonathan,
Maybe it belongs to an Office 365 Group? In that case, you can find the group from the Admin portal -> Groups. You can edit settings directly from the Group itself (from the Exchange side - Click Conversations in the upper-right corner of the SharePoint site).
Microsoft recently announced an upcoming new version of the SharePoint Admin Center, which will include Office 365 Groups in the Site Collection overview as well.

You need to be either group owner to promote others (which can be done from the Exchange part of the group or from SharePoint) or Global Administrator, so that you can edit the membership directly from the Office 365 admin center.
By default the person who creates the group becomes the owner. The owner can then promote other members as owners. Please take a look at this: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/admin/create-groups/add-or-remove-members-from-groups?view=o365-worldwide for more information.
Please let me know, if it helps you any further.

The update to the SharePoint Admin Center seems to be overdue as it is still not possible to view Modern sites. Please could you advise when it will be available. Thanks!

Hi Heidi. Don't you see the "Try the new SharePoint admin center preview" link in the top-right corner of your SharePoint admin center (https://<tenant>-admin.sharepoint.com) ? The "Site management" overview does include modern sites as well.

Thanks for this.
Do you know why it would have done this?

Well, Office 365 Groups is the new kid on the block, where SharePoint site collections have been around for ages now. The new SharePoint admin center (the successor to the current SharePoint admin center, where you can view your classic site collections and manage them) will include both classic SharePoint site collections AND Office 365 Group-related site collections.
