Cannot Edit Microsoft Access 2016 file (accdb) in Sharepoint!

Hi there,

We have an Access database saved in a SharePoint 2016 document library.  It opens as read-only from this location and if we wish to make changes it needs to be re-saved as a new file rather than the changes being uploaded to SharePoint.  I have read other discussions and have checked the File Properties and the 'Read-Only' box is unchecked.

As we want to use the Access file as a data registration entry for an excel database so we are concerned the link will be missing everytime we have to resave the Access file to SharePoint.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

  • This behavior is just normal since for SharePoint, en Access Database is just a file that you cannot work with in the same way you can do with a Word, PowerPoint or Excel document so you need to re-save each time you want to do something. SharePoint 2016 still provides Access Services so I recommend you to explore the possibilities this service can bring to you when working with Access in SharePoint

Thanks Juan. In our SharePoint, I cannot see any Access Services. I would appreciate it if you can explain more, please.

I searched further, and could see that there is a setting that admin could do that. Is that the possibility that you mentioned.

      Thanks
