Best practices for tagging new files

  • Trying to get staff on board to tag newly-created files in SP.
  • We're recommending that staff create new documents in SP (rather than creating a document in Word on their machine and then uploading it).
  • The following is the simplest way to do that, as far as I can tell. (It seems very clunky; hard to believe it's the best method.)
    • Create new document (or other file type) in SP.
    • Change the file name.
    • Close the file.
    • Select "Edit in grid view."
    • Add metadata.
    • Close grid view.
    • Reopen the file.

Is this really the smoothest method? It just isn't intuitive to require a user to close a file they just created.

only in web view that's correct, after creating and editing document, you can add metadaten in grid view or information panel.

In the word desktop app in ribbon section view, you have a SharePointe section to edit the SharePoint document properties.
