Basic site permissions question

When I use SharePoint advanced permissions configuration to put someone in a group, it sends a sharing invitation containing a link to the Home page of the SP site. Below I am showing the permissions I configured. The sharing link included in the email produce "access denied." However, if I put someone in this group and then send them a direct link to the library, that link works.  I'm sure this is basic, please help me fix it so that the sharing link works.
