Solved

Ahh i de-modernized my Sharepoint Online tenant.

Hmmm i seem to have done something to "roll" my sites back to classic.

Now when i click Site Contents, its NOT the new modern site contents page, and when i click create new page, its the old page..

What i have been doing prior to this is installing the pnp pack into an azure website, and enabling it on my tenant, also using the enable-sporesponsiveui command to try and make sites responsive..

In my sharepoint admin site, i am set to the new experience.

Any clues?

  • The SharePoint modern stuff is "smart enough" to detect customizations enabled in your sites. I believe when you loaded the pnp pack, SPO realizes you added customization and automatically turns off the modern experience. Modern really is pretty much only useful if you are using SPO as vanilla right now.

Even though I accepted another answer, this is what actually solved my problem. Hope it helps some others.

In short delete the cookie mentioned in this article.

Disabled or removed? I think you flat out have to remove it all.
